A birth plan allows for everyone involved in the birthing process to know what your wishes are for before, during, and after labor. A birthing plan contains information such as: your healthcare provider, who you want present during labor and birth, what positions you want to be in for labor, if and what drugs you would like to ease pain during labor, if you want to breastfeed your baby, if you want your baby boy circumcised, and special traditions that take place when the baby is born. These are some examples of what can be included but it is up to you to decide what you wish to include in the plan. Depending on the practices of where you are giving birth, you may not have to include certain things in your birth plan because it’s the standard of practice. There are many templates online that allow you to customize your birth plan.

Children between the ages of 8-18 look at screens, such as phones, TV’s, and computers, for an average of 7.5 hours per day. This screen time is solely for entertainment purposes and doesn’t include screen time used for homework or at school. Spending massive amounts in front of a screen prevents children from getting the minimum 60 minutes per day of physical activity.  Screen time should be limited to 1-2 hours per day to encourage children to engage in more physical activities. Some activities children can do instead of looking at screens are: play a sport, walk the dog, or ride a bike.

Tracking your fertile period can give you direction when trying to conceive and help show you when you will be most likely to conceive. Tracking your fertile period can be done by using the length of your cycle, measuring your basal body temperature, and checking cervical mucus. There’s also things that lower your chances of getting pregnant, such as birth control, caffeine, smoking, and drinking.

Tracking Your Fertile Period

Your fertility period depends on the length of your cycle. Track your cycle for a few months, with day 1 being the first day of your period and the last day being the day before your next period. After finding the average, subtract 18 days from the shortest cycle. This will tell you the earliest you’re expected to become fertile. Then subtract 11 days from your longest cycle. This will show you the last day that will be likely to be fertile. The time in between these days is when you’re most likely to conceive.

There are benefits to breastfeeding for both mom and baby. Breast milk contains the perfect mixture of nutrition that babies need to grow and be healthy.One of the things that separates breast milk from formula is that it contains antibodies that help your baby to fight off bacteria and viruses. Because of these antibodies, babies who are breastfed experience less diarrhea, fewer ear infections, and fewer respiratory illnesses. Breastfeeding also has an impact later on in life. Breastfeeding has been associated with higher IQ scores and lower risks of diabetes, cancer, and obesity. Breastfeeding also has many benefits for mothers. Breastfeeding burns calories so it can help you lose weight faster. Breastfeeding lowers a woman’s risk of developing ovarian and breast cancer. Breastfeeding also helps to reduce uterine bleeding because it releases oxytocin which causes your uterus to shrink back to it’s normal size.

Nutrition is very important during pregnancy because because your baby requires certain nutrients to develop. Eating a balanced diet helps the baby to be healthy and can minimize some symptoms like nausea and constipation. It’s also important to stay hydrated by drinking lots of water.

Some things need to be restricted or avoided altogether during pregnancy. Caffeine and artificial sweeteners should be restricted. Pregnant women can safely have 200 mg or less of caffeine per day. Alcohol needs to completely be avoided in the first trimester because it can cause defects in the baby.

There are certain vitamins that need to be consumed daily to ensure the proper growth and development of the baby. Folic acid help prevent major birth defects of the fetal brain and spine called neural tube defects and pregnant women need at least 400 micrograms per day. Breastfeeding should always be considered first before formula feeding but there are instances where breastfeeding isn’t an option and formula must be used, or supplemented alongside breastfeeding. Many of the baby formulas sold in the United States have corn syrup as one of the main ingredients. This is not healthy and for that reason, we suggest ordering formula online from a few european companies. Europe has better farming practices; the ingredients used in infant formula can have no detectable levels of pesticide residue. This standard for pesticide levels is what we consider as organic. Infant formula also comes in stages: stage 1 (birth to 6 months), stage 2 (6+ months), and stage 3 (toddlers). As babies are quickly growing, their nutrition requirements are also rapidly changing. The majority of the antibiotics that are unnecessary are those that are prescribed for viral infections that can not be treated with antibiotics. Some of these viral infections include: viral sore throats, the common cold, bronchitis, and sinus and ear infections. The impact of the overprescription of antibiotics is bacteria becoming resistant to antibiotics. This is dangerous because antibiotics can be life saving for infections that require the treatment of antibiotics. Antibiotics can also be harmful to your health. The harmful impacts of overprescribing are: antibiotic associated diarrhea, tendon rupture, Long QT syndrome, colitis, renal compromise, and allergic reactions. There is also the potential to cause increased asthma, increased obesity, mental health effects, and an impaired immune system.

Maintaining a healthy weight before pregnancy and gaining a healthy amount of weight during pregnancy is important. Living a healthy lifestyle helps the baby to grow and develop and also helps create a more positive pregnancy and birthing experience for the mother. On the other hand, the risk of a baby being born with a birth defect increases slightly when their mother is obese. You have probably heard the saying “eating for two” while pregnant, however, that is an exaggeration of how much a pregnant woman should be eating. A healthy woman should try to consume 300 calories more per day to have a healthy weight gain during pregnancy. Healthy weight gain is dependent on a woman’s weight before getting pregnant. Healthy women should aim to gain 2 to 4 pounds during the first trimester and then a pound every additional week for a total of 25 to 35 pounds. Underweight women need to gain more weight during pregnancy, around 28 to 40 pounds, and overweight women need to gain less, around 15...

Children should remain in certain car seats, depending on their height and weight, until they outgrow the weight or height limits. It’s important to look at the height and weight recommendations on the car seat and not base the seat on the child's age because children grow at different rates. Infants and toddlers should begin in a rear facing car seat, then move to a forward facing car seat, then a booster seat, before finally using only a seat belt. Seat belts usually begin to fit children properly once the child is 4’9” and between the ages of 9-12 years old.
