Meet the Doctor

Dr. Genie M. Markwell, C.C.W.P., CFCN, CFCT

Dr. Genie M. Markwell is a graduate of Life University, the largest Chiropractic school in the world. She completed a two year internship in Atlanta, GA before she opened her own practice in Hawaii. After moving to Seattle, she worked as an associate doctor for two years in a very busy subluxation based practice in Normandy Park. Eight months pregnant with her second child, she took a short period of time off and then returned to the proffession to build a family practice in West Seattle. She chose to move back to Des Moines to be closer to her family so that she too may live a life of balance.

Dr. Genie maintains memberships in the following:

She is one of only five Certified Chiropractic Wellness Practitioner (C.C.W.P.) in the state of WA. Dr. Genie specializes in neuro-immunology and addresses an advanced level of wellness and optimal health through Nutrition, Fitness, Emotional and Neurological health in the context of the Chiropractic paradigm. She is also certified in Motor Vehicle Accident Injury Rehab, CrossFit Nutrition and she is also a CrossFit Certified Trainer.

She lives here in Des Moines and enjoys being very active in the community. Both of her kids, Aden and Helena, attend the local schools and are often seen around the office helping out.  They also have two dogs; Diego (a laid back lab mix) and Grace (a Chi-poo with big dog attitude).

Dr. Genie competes as a National Level fitness competitor with the NPC (Fitness is the more athletic/aerobic form of body building) and she is a CrossFit enthusiast. Her own fitness journey has driven her to integrate nutrition and fitness into the practice to assist others who want to lose weight,  improve their performance abilities, increase their energy levels or overcome physical or mental obsticals. Dr. Genie is planning to open a CrossFit training facility here in Des Moines in the near future.

Dr. Genie and her family receive Chiropractic care and Massage therapy on a regular basis along with other practices that promote a healthy lifestyle including: regular exercise, eating a well-balanced whole foods diet, plenty of out door activities and a lot of family fun time!

Meet the Staff

Hannah Getty, LMP

Massage Therapy - Exercise Programs - Billing/Office Manager - Front Desk

From a young age, Hannah has been passionate about working in the medical field, and has a strong interest in naturopathic medicine. She also enjoys sports and athletics. Consequently, she received her degree in Athletic Training from Linfield College in McMinnville, OR. She became a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) after completing the NATABOC (National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification) exam after graduation.

Hannah decided she wanted to further her education, and enrolled at the Cortiva Institute to become a Licensed Massage Practitioner (LMP). She completed the 1000 Hour Extended Program in April 2010, passed her licensing exam and received her WA state license in June 2010.  She has had training in many techniques such as:

  • Swedish/Relaxation
  • Deep Tissue/Treatment
  • Thai Yoga Massage
  • Hawaiian Lomi Lomi
  • Foot Reflexology
  • Myofacial Release Technique
  • Craniosacral
  • and Lymphatic Drainage
  • She is also attuned to Level 2 Reiki.

In her spare time, Hannah loves to do anything outdoors, especially hiking and camping. She also loves to take photographs. You will see some of her amazing pictures around the office. 

Hannah is the office manager and handles all of our billing and insurance. She is also available to help with exercise training and stretching programs.

 Tracy Westbrook, LMP

Liscened Massage Practicioner

Tracy is a massage therapy graduate of the Northwest Academy of Healing Arts of Tacoma, WA.  She has had training in several styles of massage and body work including CranioSacral work, Reflexology, extensive Deep Tissue/Cervical Injury work as well as Swedish and Relaxation massage.  She has been involved in complimentary therapies for over 15 years and is also a certified Master Herbalist and Aromatherapist and has developed and manufactured several products and gift items. (some of which are available at the office)

Shannon Danneman, CA

Front Desk

Shannon is a senior at Mt. Rainier High School here in Des Moines.  She is a part of the seasonal gymnastics team at school and really enjoys the sport and being a part of the team.  She is also very involved in the community young life group and her church's youth group, and enjoys going on mission trips with them every summer.

She has a great passion for living a healthy lifestyle which is why she wants to pursue health and nutrition as possible majors when she goes off to college next year!
